"i think she's giving us the silent treatment."

From the How to Confuse a 7th Grader Files:

It's one of the oldest rehearsal tricks in the book, but it works every time.

Silently take the podium.

(As in step onto it. Don't actually take it anywhere. Although, on second thought, that would also confuse the kiddos. So nevermind.)

Raise your baton.

Give a downbeat.

Proceed to lead a rehearsal without saying a word.

And wait for the fun to start.

"What's she doing?" "Is she a mime?" "Why aren't you talking?" "Is she mad at us?" "What's going on?" "Did you lose your voice?"

Soon you will have them hanging on your every facial expression and move of the baton.

Success.

Rapt (or mostly, anyway) attention, good learning, and much amusement in the process.

It's a win-win.
